Mall evacuated as Peaches poses

STYLE icon Peaches Geldof had her visit to Warrington cut short by emergency alarms that forced the whole of the Golden Square shopping centre to be evacuated today
Peaches was in town to promote her new “Eco Bags”, but had to be ushered off stage when the fire alarms sounded.
She had just posed for photographs and had signed several of her bags when the evacuation was awarded.
The bags are unique to Warrington and are to pledge her support to the centre’s campaign to become the first plastic free shopping zone in the UK.
A few lucky ticket holders did manage to get their hands on the bags before the alarms sounded, with a total of 500 due to be given away on the day.
Before the alarms sound, Peaches said: “When Golden Square approached me about designing the bag I jumped at the chance to help out as the project combines my love of fashion and gave me an opportunity to support my favoured charity The Sea Turtle Trust.
“Scientific studies have shown that plastic bags are damaging to marine species, including whales, dolphins, seals, puffins, fulmars and turtles. Some marine species, such as the endangered leatherback turtle, a summer visitor to Scottish waters, mistake plastic bags for their normal prey of jelly fish, with deadly results. Many marine species are now affected by the minute toxic particles that plastic items, including bags, are reduced to by photodegradation, leading to a weakening of their immune system.
“I enjoyed creating the design for the bag. My aim was to produce something fun and colourful that would look great with this summer’s hot colour looks.”
