New book marks capital of culture

POPULAR Lymm author Martin Edwards has based his new book, “Waterloo Sunset,” in Liverpool to mark the city’s celebrations as Capital of Culture.
Martin, of Baycliffe, is a partner in a firm of solicitors mainly based in Liverpool. He has written 12 crime books, many based in the Lake District, and the new title is his eighth featuring popular lawyer Harry Devlin.
He had also written many legal books, but enjoys the challenge of creative writing in his novels.
The latest title was inspired by the 1960s Kinks song – and it features in part the Waterloo area of Liverpool.
Martin said: “I am very excited about this book. I usually write about the Lake District but wanted to write about Liverpool to mark the Capital of Culture status.”
The story begins with Harry receiving a note to say he will die suddenly on Midsummers’ Eve – just a few days later.
Martin, who is married to Helena has two children Jonathan, 17, and Catherine, 15, who both attend Lymm High School. He is an employment lawyer.
He writes in his spare time and says ideas come in a variety of ways, such as when driving or from a snippet of conversation overheard. It usually takes him about a year to complete a book.
His new book will be launched at the new Beatles themed Hard Day’s Night hotel in Liverpool city centre on June 4.
