Achievement awards for the mature

THE more mature residents of Warrington have been honoured at a special ceremony to celebrate hard work and outstanding achievement.
Widening Active Participation for Older People’s Young at Heart Awards are given to elderly residents in Warrington who have been nominated by their peers to receive special recognition.
Among the winners was 91-year-old William Savage, who received the Sporting Award. He swims a mile every Tuesday at Fordton Leisure Centre and is a keen rambler.
Jennie Radley scooped the Arts Award for her work at the University of the Third Age magazine and for running several groups including Singing for Pleasure, Music Appreciation and the Sunday Lunch Club.
Other winners on the evening were Norma Sears, for the Learner Award, Paul and Rita Roberts, John and Wendy Homer, Dilys Swann, for the Volunteer Award, and Warrington Borough Council Activity Workers for the Group Award.
Former Mayor Coun Celia Jordan and her Consort Roy Jefferson presented the winners with their certificates at the ceremony held at the Gateway Centre.
