TWO of the youths convicted of the murder of Garry Newlove at Warrington have been granted leave to appeal.
Adam Swellings, 19, is to appeal against both his conviction and his minimum 17-year jail term.
Stephen Sorton, 17, will appeal against his minimum 15-year sentence.
No date has yet been fixed for the hearings.
Mr Newlove, 47, was punched and kicked to death after confronting a gang about vandalism to his wife’s car.
The subsequent murder trial at Chester Crown Court heard he had been “kicked like a football”.
The attack was witnessed by Mr Newlove’s daughters, Zoe, 18, Danielle, 16 and Amy, 13.
Mr Newlove died later in hospital.
Since then, his widow, Helen, has launched a campaign for more action to stop youth gangs going on the rampage after binge drinking.
