HOT on the heels of popular television series CSI – police have appointed their own Crime Scene Investigator to work in Warrington.
Officers see the role as a new weapon in the crackdown on criminal damage cases in the Northern area.
Phil Done has been appointed CSI in a unique role and will work in Warrington attending criminal damage crime scenes.
He will work with colleagues from the CSI department but will be responsible for those incidents where it is believed vital forensic evidence can be secured. Officers hope the role will boost the number of criminal damage offenders brought to justice.
Chief Inspector Nick Bailey said: “Criminal damage incidents account for a large amount of the overall crime. Our CSI’s do a great job and attend as many incidents of criminal damage as soon as they can.
“But by working in this role it means that Phil is available to focus purely on incidents of criminal damage. In this dedicated role Phil is playing a big part in helping to solve the number of criminal damage cases in Warrington, Runcorn and Widnes.”
Phil, a retired police officer who has spent more than 20 years working as a CSI in Macclesfield, has carried out a similar role for Cheshire Police in the Northwich and Chester areas.
Figures show that in Warrington criminal damage offences account for 23 per cent of all crime.
Phil said: “Many people would probably be surprised to know just how much information can be gathered at a crime scene. The technology we now have at our disposal means that we are better than ever at solving crime.
“In many cases, we make big developments on the strength of forensic evidence alone. It is hoped that over the coming weeks we will be able to bring many criminal damage offenders to justice with the help of forensic evidence.”
