Practical experience for biology students

BIOLOGY students at one of Warrington’s top colleges have been gaining valuable practical experience at three sites across the North West.
The group from Priestley College first visited the Bodyworlds 4 exhibition at the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry, where famous TV doctor Gunther Von Hagens, performed a live autopsy.
They then were given the chance to study molecular genetics and DNA at the city’s Nowgen centre, before being given an insight into what it is like to pursue a career in medicine at Leighton Hospital.
All the adventures drew to a close with a final visit to Formby Point to study the sand dunes and learn about practical ecology.
Head of Biology, Dr Louise Norbury, said: “Taking part in such off campus trips is ideal for the students as it gives them a sense of their subject in a real life setting. The Bodyworlds 4 exhibition was particularly fascinating whilst the trips to the Nowgen Centre and Formby Point once again proved to be very enriching.”
