TOWN Hall chiefs want a letter from a doctor before they will help disabled residents move their wheelie bins.
Residents of the Mayfield Road area of Grappenhall discovered they had to prove they are disabled before refuse collectors will assist them take the bins to a local collection points.
Many residents in the area are either disabled or elderly and cannot physically move heavy bins.
A collection point is being set up because refuse collection vehicles cannot reach some homes because of vehicles parked in the road
Disabled residents have to provide a letter from their doctor, confirming their disability, if they want binmen to move their bins to the collection point.

  1. It’s sad that things have got this far.

When the problem first arose, WHY wasn’t action taken by the council to talk to the Residents and come to a compromise.

It is too easy to NOT collect the bins, because of time restrictions.

The onus is on the council. After all, that’s why we pay to have them collected.

As a resident of Mayfield Road, I can confirm I have not been advised by the refuse collection department at WBC of any new collection point since the meeting last week so my bins going in its usual place. I know for a fact that my neighbours who are disabled have not offically been advised to get Doctors notes as yet……… bin collection is tomorrow morning, we’ll have to wait and see.

If disabled peoples bins were collected at a certain point that would be great for them but that still doesn’t solve the porblem for the whole street!
