A WARRINGTON based car company was left with a bill for more than £4,000 when one of their customers took a car without paying.
Zach Brendel, 19, had agreed to pay for the vehicle on hire purchase from Polar Ford on Winwick Road. But he failed to make even one re-payment and eventually sold the car for £4,000.
The agreed price of the car was in the region of £8,500, with Brendel securing the re-payment agreement by giving a false address and details of a job he never had.
Brendel, from McDonald Close in Oldham, pleaded guilty at Warrington Crown Court to dishonestly making false representations and was made subject of an 18-month community order.
He was also ordered to enrol on a programme for offenders.
Joanne Parsons, prosecuting, said Brendel paid a mere £100 as a deposit on the car in September last year.
Sarah Johnston, defending, told the court how Brendell had obtained the car with a view to selling it for profit because he had three children and a partner to care for.
He had taken drugs in the past and had struggled with a gambling addiction.
Judge Nicholas Woodward told the defendant: “This is a serious matter, but I have to take into account many factors. It appears you are taking the first proper steps towards keeping yourself out of trouble.”
