Lorry driver escapes from inferno

A LORRY driver escaped unhurt early today after fire broke out as he slept in his cab.
The blaze involved an articulated lorry parked in Melford Court at Woolston, Warrington.
A passerby raised the alarm after seeing flames leaping from the trailer unit and the driver managed to pull his cab away from the trailer. By the time firefighters reached the scene the trailer – laden with wood shavings in plastic packs – was an inferno.
The vehicle’s tyres were exploding due to the heat as the firefighting operation started.
Fire crews had to drag the load from the trailer and break it open to extinguish the deep seated blaze.
The cause of the outbreak is not known- but arson has not been ruled out.
Fire crews from Birchwood and Warrington were called to the scene shortly after 1am.
