MULTI-talented Will Judge has been named as Warrington’s Young Citizen of the Year.
The 15-year-old Sir Thomas Boteler High School pupil – who was Citizen of the Month in January – was selected by the Mayor, Coun Celia Jordan.
He received a commemorative glass award and a meal for four at Warrington’s Paddington House Hotel worth £160 and will feature on the cover of Warrington Worldwide magazine.
Will said: “It is fantastic to have won. I was really surprised when the Mayor read my name out. It has been brilliant to meet all the other winners as well and hear about the fantastic things they have done.”
Will was nominated for the award by Assistant Head Teacher at Sir Thomas Boteler School, Hugh Chambers, for being a “multi-talented pupil whose forte is organising the work of other pupils and assisting staff in a range of major school projects.”
He is also responsible for establishing a learning path between his school and Birchwood High School, as well as being elected on to the school council for the next academic year.
The Mayor commented: “There isn’t anything Will doesn’t do, whether it is sports, music, school council or establishing links between students and staff. He is a fine example of what our young people are really like.
“We have been pleased with the number of nominations we have received and the standard has been very high. Picking an overall winner was tough and that’s not forgetting those who didn’t make the final.
“My theme during my year as Mayor has been ‘Our children, Our future’ and I think the future for Warrington is bright in the hands of these young people. It has been a very worthwhile programme and I am delighted the Mayor elect, Graham Wellborn will be carrying it on next year.”
The other Young Citizen of the Month winners, who were also at the ceremony and received personal mementos, were Gus Renshaw, 12, Jonathan Scotland, 18, Charlotte Pickering, eight and Dawood Emanuel Mughal, nine.
Leader of the borough council, Ian Marks said: “I’ve heard what Will does and I am very impressed. Clearly he is a role model for other young people in Warrington.
“The competition has gone down very well and the more people know what a good award it is, the more will get involved.”
