SMOKE alarms alerted the occupiers when a cooker burst into flames at a house in Warrington.
Two crews from Warrington Fire station were mobilised to the blaze on Wilkinson Street, Longford.
When they arrived the fire was out, but the property was filled with smoke and crews used a ventilation unit to clear it away.
Smoke alarms were fitted at the address and did activate.
Meanwhile, a prank by an inmate at Risley Prison caused disruption at both Warrington and Birchwood fire stations.
Reports came through to both stations of a cell fire at the prison, but on arrival they discovered it to be a malicious call from one of the prisoners.
