The borough's worst grot spot?

WARRINGTON’S Clean Team – the voluntary group which targets “grot spots” across the borough for litter picking projects – has identified one of the worst areas ever.
The group is returning to Great Sankey – near to Great Sankey High School – for the second Sunday on the run after being overwhelmed by the amount of litter they found last Sunday.
Nine volunteers filled 15 rubbish bags in just two hours – with an estimated 75 per cent of the litter they saw left uncollected.
Clean team leader Coun Trudi Wood said: “It was really very sad to see such a lot of litter. In one area, around the moat near Great Sankey High School and Sankey Leisure Centre, piles of litter had built up.
At one point it seemed to be the same lunch boxes repeating time and again, the same sandwich wrappers, the same drinks, the same cheese dippers, the same crisp packets etc, there was just no end to it!”
Cleaners were so upset at leaving so much rubbish uncollected they are returning to the same area this coming Sunday (April 27), meeting at Barrowhall Theatre at 10.30am.
Anyone requiring more information on the Clean Team can contact Trudi Wood on 07919 558557.
