WARRINGTON South MP Helen Southworth is calling for children using the Internet and playing video games to be better protected.
As a member of the Culture, Media and Sports Select Committee, Mrs Southworth has already raised her concerns with Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
The committee is already investigating harmful content and the MP has also met with fellow ministers to discuss what can be done.
She said: “I am pleased to see that my concerns are shared by the Government, and the Prime Minister, who asked Dr Tanya Byron to investigate the risks to children of harmful content.
“The recommendations from her report are now being looked at by the Government. I am calling on Internet providers to put up one-click links so children and parents can get help if they are concerned about their child’s safety online.
“The Internet can provide all sorts of opportunities for children to learn and play games. We have to make sure they can do it safely and are protected from exploitation.”
After meeting with the Head of the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre in London, Mrs Southworth has called for a Parliamentary debate on the issue.
