Library re-opens after facelift

LYMM Library has re-opened after a major six-month refurbishment project which has doubled the size of the building – and provided accommodation for the Citizen’s Advice Bureau and a Children’s Centre.
The extension to the building has been built in the same style as the old library, which is listed as a building of local interest.
Ella O’Neill Johnson became the first person to join the new library – and also the youngest library member in Warrington at just two days old!
She popped in with her father, Brian, on the opening day and had her picture taken with librarian Donna Love.
Donna said: “Ella joining on our first day made it even more special and just shows you’re never too young to join the Library”
Although it is now fully operational, the library, in Davies Way, will be officially re-opened by the Mayor on Friday, May 2.
The original library is more than 80 years-old and local residents were consulted on the proposals and the sort of services the expanded library should provide.
Coincidentally, a programme of environmental improvements work along the adjoining stretch of the Bridgewater Canal have been carried out, giving the whole area a facelift.
