Patients can go to hospital of choice

PATIENTS in Warrington are now free to choose the hospital they wish to be treated at.
From today (Tuesday, April 1) any patient being referred to hospital by their GP will be given the choice of any NHS and some private hospitals across the country to receive their treatment.
This will mean more choice locally and will allow patients to fit treatment round their personal circumstances.
Director of Commissioning with Warrington Primary Care Trust Kate Abendstern said: “This is great news for patients in Warrington. When they are referred to hospital, it can be a worrying time for all sorts of reasons. Being able to address some of their personal concerns or circumstances by giving them choice can only be beneficial. Of course many patients will still want their GP to choose for them and that won’t change. GPs will be able to access all the information available to do that.”
Patients will be able to seek advice from their GP and other resources like the Internet and directly from the NHS, to make an informed decision that is best for them.
During recent research, patients indicated factors that would influence them the most about which hospital to choose would be personal experience, reputation, location, hygiene standards, parking facilities, waiting times and quality of care.
