WARRINGTON Town travelled to promotion chasing Nantwich, looking to build on their three consecutive victories and started brightly. but midfielder Franny Smith’s early shot went straight at Nantwich keeper Craig Ellison.
The home side hit back however and forced Diego Bassanini into a smart save shortly afterwards.
Town should have taken the lead in the 18th minute when striker Carl Rendell shot too close to Ellison, and within a minute, Town were behind, to the first goal conceded by the team in 319 minutes, when a long ball forward, hit on loan striker Nick Farquharson on the knee, deflecting the ball past Bassanini.
Warrington were soon hunting an equaliser, with Chris Fitzsimmons heading a corner narrowly over the bar.
Fitzsimmons was called on shortly afterwards to deny Farquharson a one on one with Bassanini. Town should have been level before half time, when Steve Everett poked the ball narrowly wide after a mistake in the Nantwich defence.
The second half began with both sides looking for a goal, Smith blasting over early on for Town, and substitute Nantwich striker Pavol Suhaj, placing two headers wide of the goal from within the six yard box.
Striker Thomas Lamb shot straight at keeper Ellison shortly afterwards. The game became more midfield orientated after the introduction of a number of substitutions from both sides. The closest either side came to a goal late in the game was when Steve Everett kicked a goalbound Nantwich effort off the line. Try as they might, Town could not find a deserved equaliser.
Town: Bassanini, Holmes, Fitzsimmons, Spearitt, Owens, K Brown (Bell, 70), Daniels (Grogan, 60), Smith, Rendell, Lamb, Everett. Sub not used: Thomas.
