Music festival
rumour dismissed

by Lesley Wilkinson

A RUMOUR that the controversial Creamfields music festival could continue for 20 years if it was granted a licence next year has been dismissed.
Coun Sonia Boggan told Stockton Heath Parish Council that she had heard that if the licence was approved a third time next year, the organisers would then be able to continue with the festival at Daresbury for 20 years.
The music festival is on land in the jurisdiction of Halton Borough Council who have granted a licence for two years despite opposition from many local residents.
Coun Peter Walker said it was not the case that the licence would run on.
He said: “They could apply for 20 years and Halton could grant it – but that is very unlikely.?

Historic machine
to be protected

by Lesley Wilkinson

A MACHINE that is part of Stockton Heath history and was found on a derelict site at Trafford Park, is to be protected.
The “billet cutter,” removed from The Forge shopping centre in Stockton Heath to allow for refurbishment, was discovered by resident Patrick Mullee on the site at Barton Dock Road.
Following the discovery, Stockton Heath Parish Council wrote to site owners Manchester Ship Canal Company asking about storage of the machine.
The company said the site manager had been made aware of the “historic importance” of the machine and the area around it would be fenced off.
Coun Sonia Boggan said: “This is an important piece of machinery. Stockton Heath grew up around this.”
The machine was originally used at the old Stockton Heath Forge company and is one of a number which were on display in the shopping centre prior to the refurbishment.
A decision has still to be made about where the old machines are to be displayed in future.
