I don’t suppose your video rentals have much selecion of Korean films — we have 800,000 Korean and Korean-Americans in Los Angeles. A new one I saw on DVD is Sil-mi-do — which is the name of one of their coastal islands given to Army training. It tells a true story of 4 sergeants and 31 condemned prisoners in 1971 who trained for a suicide mission to assassinate Kim Il-Sung. It is very similar to The Dirty Dozen. Several recent films deal with the North/South divide. Tae-Guk (Brotherhood) is also a fantastic war film, and The Monster – is a sci-fi about rhino sized fish/lizard in the Han River caused by a U.S. Army dumping of formaldehyde in a base closing move.
