Duffy's delight earns Town a point

2

DESPITE a second half wonder goal from full-back Mike Duffy, his first for the club, Warrington Town only managed a 1-1 draw against 10 man Bamber Bridge.
Trailing 0-1 at the break Duffy’s strike on 69 minutes was a worthy contender for goal of the season as he stormed down the wing controlled the ball and rifled home into the back of the net.
But even though the visitors were reduced to 10 men after Jimmy McCarthy was hacked down when through on goal, Warrington couldn’t find the killer touch to grab all three points.
In a lack lustre first half the only positive for Town was the return of influential skipper Mike Tomlinson at the heart of the defence after a two month lay-off with a knee injury.
Gavin Salmon had the only real chance stretching out to fire over the bar from just eight yards out when he looked certain to score.
But it was the visitors who took the lead in the 37th minute when Phil Eastwood slotted home a curling free kick around the defensive wall with keeper Ben Connett rooted to the spot.
While Connett could have been at fault for the goal he certainly made amends with a couple of point blank saves to keep Town in the game.
Warrington dominated much of the second half but apart from Duffy’s screamer couldn’t find a way through and had to settle for a point.
After the game manager Joey Dunn said: “We were pretty awful in the first half but played really well in the second half and should have come away with all three points.”
Town next see action on Good Friday when they travel to Wakefield followed by the visit of Salford on Easter Monday.
Both games kick off at 3pm.

  1. So much for Play off material, we are far from getting in the play offs, id say a couple of years away yet, the team are not consistant enough, we are probably the most inconsistant team in the league, other team either mainly win or lose, where as we are up then down then the odd draw, its crazy. we need to sort the defence out, we have the likes of chris G and Gavin S banging the goals in but we just cant stop leaking them. Does Joey know any decent players because to me the ones he has broiught in are no better than the ones that have gone, just mediocre.
