A BRAVE Warrington woman is still living in hope of a life-saving kidney transplant after spending an agonising three years on the waiting list.
Holly Shaw, 21, faces a constant battle with her health as she suffers from End Stage Renal Failure and requires daily kidney dialysis.
Despite feeling nauseous and tired from her treatment, Holly recently completed a two-mile sponsored walk in aid of Kidney Research.
Holly is now backing the UK’s “Live Life then Give Life” campaign, which is asking everyone to sign the NHS donor’s list.
Chairman of Live Life then Give Life, Emma Harris, said: “Despite Holly’s daily battle with her health, she is always so enthusiastic and proactive in helping spread the word about the Gift of Life. Holly’s efforts will save lives, we just hope she can get her new kidney and start her new life as soon as possible. She is a complete inspiration.”
Being taken ill suddenly with Kidney failure a few years ago has meant Holly and her family have had to put their lives on hold.
She said: “Three years on and me and my family are still facing an uncertain future. We are constantly waiting for that call that will give me my freedom back and ultimately change all of our lives. I would love to have my health and my freedom back. I’ve got so much I want to do but without a kidney transplant I just don’t know what the future holds.”
Holly is just one of more than 8,000 people in the UK who desperately need a transplant to radically improve or save their lives.
However, due to a chronic shortage of donors, around 450 people die each year waiting and the ever growing demand for organs means the waiting list only gets longer.
To sign up on the NHS donors list visit www.uktransplant.co.uk, or call the Organ Donor Line on 0845 60 60 400.
