Wolves secure runners up spot

WARRINGTON Wolves secured second spot in the league table and kept alive their slim hopes of finishing top of the table with a 29-16 victory over St Helens at Langtree Park.
The Wolves, still smarting from their defeat to Widnes, raced into a 22-0 lead within 24 minutes, thanks to tries from Joel Monaghan, Rhys Evans, Micky Higham and Trent Waterhouse, with Stefan Ratchford landing three out of four conversions.
Just before the interval Turner and Swift crossed for Saints with Lomax landing one conversion to make it 10-22 at the break.
Then when Lomax converted his own try on 55 minutes, it seemed the hosts could go on and complete a remarkable comeback.
But Warrington dug deep, Lee Briers slotting over a drop goal before Garreth Carvell grabbed a late try to secure victory.
With Wigan losing at home to Hull it ensured second spot for the Wolves while Huddersfield need a win over Wakefield at home on Sunday to secure the league leaders shield.

Pictures (from the top) show Joel Monaghan touching down, Paul Wood taking on the Saints defence, Rhys Evans going over, Trent Waterhouse scoring, fans celebrating, Garreth Carvell winning the race to the ball and players saluting the fans.
