Wolves savage Salford

RAMPANT Warrington Wolves returned to winning ways with an eight try 46-4 demolition of Salford City Reds as Richie Myler (pictured top) returned to haunt his former club.
Warrington signalled their intent from the start with Michael Monaghan’s kicking keeping the Reds pegged back in their own territory while Myler was a constant thorn in the side of his former club.
It took just four minutes for Ryan Atkins (pictured right) to open the scoring when he showed a great side step to go in at the corner and then a clever kick from Myler got Chris Riley in six minutes later.
Some brief Salford pressure came to nothing and then a slick move saw Riley score second try of the night, with Atkins offloading for Brett Hodgson to send Riley over.
Myler then waltzed through a static Reds defence just before the interval and Hodgson was on target for the third time in four attempts to make it 22-0 at the break – with the game as good as over as a contest.
Warrington kept up the pressure after the restart with Joel Monaghan collecting a kick and going under the posts.
Gareth Owen scored a 50-metre breakaway try on 55 to ensure the hosts would not be nilled but four minutes later the Wolves were in again with Hodgson finishing a Myler break.
Salford refused to lie down and former Warrington player Adam Neal was held up over the line and then a vital interception from Simon Grix prevented an almost certain try.
But Warrington finished strongly as Atkins jinked his way in for a second try on 73 and then Myler bagged his brace with an angled run to the line three minutes from time with Ratchford and O’Brien adding to Hodgson’s five conversions.
