ONE of Warrington’s oldest residents, Peggy Bentley, celebrated her 104th birthday in style with a visit by the town’s Mayor Cllr. Steve Wright.

Celebrations have been in full swing at Cheshire Grange Care Home in Lymm as Peggy reached her centenary plus four in style.

Peggy was also joined by staff, relatives and friends to celebrate this landmark birthday. The home hosted a small tea party for Peggy and her several ‘greats’ nieces and nephews, many of whom had travelled from Yorkshire to wish Peggy a ‘Happy Birthday’.

The Mayor joined the party to wish Peggy “Many Happy Returns” on her 104th birthday and share a piece of cake.

Peggy was born in Tingley, West Yorkshire in 1920, King George V was monarch at the time, after leaving school she served in the WAF, qualifying as an officer, where she was in charge of catering. It was whilst serving in the WAF she met her husband Eric who was a rear gunner in the RAF. Peggy and Eric moved to Wiltshire where she taught a little but was mainly a Domestic Goddess.
The birthday girl said: ‘104 is a very big number we’ll say I’m 21 shall we!’
