THOUSANDS of people packed into Lymm village centre for the annual Lymm Food Fest to kick start the annual festival on a balmy Summer Solstice evening.

Local traders and pop-up food and drink stalls did a roaring trade and the hungry and thirsty visitors thronged the streets which were alive with music and entertainment.

The Lymm Food Fest is always the opening event of the annual Lymm Festival which is now in its 26th year.

Highlights this year include an evening focused on “The Music The Beatles Gave Away”, with veteran BBC rock music presenter “Whispering” Bob Harris, ably assisted by music journalist Colin Hall.

One of last year’s favourite acts is also making a return and has already sold it. Gerald Dickens – great, great-grandson of the legendary Charles Dickens – will be back to deliver another of his brilliant one-man shows. Last year his “Great Expectations” show exceeded the expectations of the audience, and this year he’ll be presenting “The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby”.

Following on from the Lymm Food Fest, another favourite event is Lymm Historic Transport Day which will be this Sunday 23 June. The day opens with an eclectic vehicle parade (cars, vans, motorbikes, steam engines and more) through the village, followed by a full day of exhibits and activities on the May Queen Field. By the Canalside you’ll find old working canal boats and a sail past in the afternoon. On the Henry Street Car Park will be a fantastic array of steam traction engines.
