Helen Jones to stand again for Labour

LONG-serving MP Helen Jones will again stand for Labour in Warrington North in the snap general election to be held on June 8.
Labour  nationally announced this morning that all serving MPs would be able to stand again because there would not be time for the normal selection procedure.
Ms Jones held the seat for Labour with a majority of 8,923 over the Conservatives in the 2015 election – one of her lowest-ever majorities but still sufficient for the seat to be regarded as a “safe” seat.
The full result in 2015 was:
Sarah Hayes (Green) 1264
Helen Mary Jones (Labour) 21720 (Elected)
Stefan Krizanac (Liberal Democrats) 1881
Trevor Nicholls (UKIP) 7757
Richard Short (Conservative) 12797
Turnout 45621 (63 per cent)
The situation will be different for Labour in Warrington South, however, as Nick Bent, who has unsuccessfully fought the last two elections, has already ruled himself out because of work commitments.
Labour will have to move quickly to select a candidate to challenge Conservative David Mowat, who has won the last two elections and had a 2,750 majority at the last contest.

  1. Yes Billy and not just for your nemesis. I’ve had a couple of cryptic, non libellous, factual and/or innocuous comments on the recently criticised actions of our Police and Crime Commissioner deleted also. These people of all parties, are only too glad to pose for self aggrandising and publicising photo-opportunities, but when their all too obvious shortcomings are brought into the spotlight, not just by us but by other authorities they want to hide them under all sorts of pretexts.

  2. “I will fight the election on my record in the constituency.” Is what Helen has said.Which is obviously a case of her distancing herself from her leader, using a statement favoured by other Labour MP’s over the past few days. But what exactly is her constituency record? Just what has she done for the town since 1997? And I’m not talking about ‘generalisms’ here, but ‘specifics’. Just what has she done for the town in her capacity as the MP for the past twenty years? I’m all ears if anyone can step in.
